Akwa Ibom Empowers Students with Free iPads in All Government Schools
In a bold move that proves Akwa Ibom State is ready for the digital future, the government has gifted iPads to all students in public secondary schools across the state. This innovation marks a turning point in the state’s educational journey, showing that the leaders truly understand that the future is digital.
Over the years, technology has changed how the world works — from business to communication, and now, education. The Akwa Ibom State government has embraced this shift. They believe that if students are trained early with digital tools, they will grow up ready to compete globally. This move is not just about giving out gadgets — it’s about giving young people a chance to dream bigger and access opportunities.
According to some educational experts in the state, this will reduce unemployment in the future. When students are exposed to technology early, they learn skills like coding, design, writing, and other digital professions. Also, it will keep many young girls focused on their studies. A community leader said, “With this iPad, our girls will be too busy learning new things online instead of falling into early pregnancy due to lack of parental guidance.”

Interestingly, this idea reminds many people of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the young president of Burkina Faso. He recently reshaped his country’s educational system to focus on independence, skill development, and full control of local resources. If Nigeria could adopt such forward-thinking ideas — starting from education — there is hope that the country can rise again and take back its glory.
In Afaha Obong, students of Community Comprehensive Secondary School couldn’t believe it when they were handed iPads. One student said, “We just saw the truck arrive, and the teachers called us to come. They gave each of us an iPad and told us it’s for learning. I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
In the evening, the streets were filled with whispers. One uncle shouted, “Where did you see this expensive phone?”
The niece replied with a smile, “Uncle, it’s not just a phone, it’s an iPad, and Governor gave it to us in school for free.”
As more families learn about this innovation, excitement is spreading like wildfire. If this kind of progress continues, there’s no doubt that Akwa Ibom is preparing her children not just for exams, but for the world ahead.
