£60 Million or No Deal as Sporting Hold Firm While Emmanuel Petit Blasts Arsenal’s Pursuit of Gyökeres

Gyökeres

Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker has led them to Portugal, where Sporting CP have made it clear they won’t part ways with Viktor Gyökeres for anything less than £60 million, according to The Mirror.

The Gunners are reportedly preparing a contract worth around £200,000 per week for the Swedish forward, but any formal move is expected to wait until Sporting wraps up their domestic season. No matter the delay, Arsenal will definitely go for this offer, believing Gyökeres could bring the firepower they need up front.

Gyökeres has been in explosive form since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, scoring nearly a goal per game and attracting attention across Europe. Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, sees him as a top priority this summer.

However, not everyone in the Arsenal circle is convinced. Club legend Emmanuel Petit has voiced his concerns, suggesting that spending £60 million on one player might not be the wisest move.

Gyökeres

“£60 million is a huge fee for a player who’s only just stepped up to the top level,” Petit told reporters. “There’s no doubt he’s talented, but Arsenal must be careful not to repeat past mistakes.”

Despite Petit’s caution, the Arsenal board appears ready to take the gamble. Sources close to the club suggest the management is confident that Gyökeres has what it takes to lead their attack next season.

But the story doesn’t end there. If Andrea Berta succeeds in landing both Gyökeres and midfield target Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Arsenal are expected to shift focus to Athletic Club’s rising star Nico Williams. The 21-year-old winger has long been admired by Berta and could be the final piece in a bold attacking rebuild.

With the summer window approaching, Arsenal fans should prepare for a busy few weeks. And if the Gunners pull off this triple swoop, it could signal a serious statement of intent from Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the 2025 season.
